Laws, courts and authorities
EGBGB
Abbreviation for Einführungsgesetz zum Bürgerlichen Gesetzbuche
In short and in plain language
The EGBGB is a German law that adds rules to the Civil Code.
It says, for example, what an online shop must tell consumers before they buy.
This includes the cost of shipping and the right to withdraw.
Definition
The EGBGB is the Introductory Act to the German Civil Code and adds further rules to the BGB. For online shops, Article 246a is particularly important: it sets out what consumers must be told before a distance contract, such as shipping costs, the delivery date and the right of withdrawal.
